Mother’s Day is fast approaching. Gentlemen (and ladies), now is the time to show all of the Moms in your life how much you appreciate everything they do. Moms do so much for their families, and rarely do they ever ask for anything in return.
When Devin and I got married, I knew that I was lucky to be marrying such a wonderful person and to be able to call her my wife. What I didn’t know was the amazing Mother she would become first to Toby, our furry child, then to Carter. Let me tell you, I couldn’t have asked for a better Mom. She is the most unselfish, caring, loving, protective (I could go on forever) person I have ever met and the three of us are so lucky to have her.
The traits that make Devin such an amazing Mom are equally important to Carter and Toby. Many of the same things that babies need from a Mom are also needed by their furry siblings. Toby is a very loving dog, and needs affection, love and time to play. Devin has always balanced Carter’s needs with Toby’s. This has been especially true with this blog and the @carterandtoby Instagram account. Devin has always made it a point that we include Toby in as many things as possible, which I am sure you know by now seeing their adventures play out. Because of this, I have no doubt that both of them know that they are loved.
When I decided to go back to school to pursue my MBA degree we only had Toby in our lives. However, shortly after, we found out that Devin was pregnant. Devin never complained when I was unavailable to help change diapers, clean the house or take Toby on walks. She was always there to provide a support and to ensure that Carter and Toby’s needs were met. For this, I will forever be grateful.
I am sure that if you ask Devin, she would tell you that being Mom to both a toddler and a dog isn’t always easy. They tend to pull her in different directions. However, I am also positive that she would say that it is the most rewarding experience. The relationship that has developed between the two of them has been fun to watch. I want to encourage everyone to consider adopting a furry child. I promise you that you will not regret it.
Being a Mom is a thankless job. In the rare case that I have spent with Carter and Toby alone, I have gained so much appreciation for what it takes to be a full-time Mom. So as Mother’s Day nears, I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You!” to my wonderful wife for being the most wonderful Mother for my two babies.
